The eight-year-old chestnut solid Paint gelding with the bald face, owned by Dave and Mari Laursen, recently starred in a television commercial from the Montana Department of Transportation. The 30-second TV ad spot, titled “Sober Friend,” has been aired since Thanksgiving in Montana .

Filmed in Hamilton, Montana, in November, Outlaw Rooster’s on-screen debut has struck a chord with drunk driving opponents across the nation. In fact, the video has become an official YouTube sensation.

The photo shoot, which took over 10 hours, captured Outlaw Rooster’s photogenic nature, even if it tried the horse’s patience.“The hurry up and wait part got a bit old for Rooster,” explained Mari Laursen. But he was so patient,” Mari Laursen continued.

“Rooster” has always been our pasture clown and a very inquisitive horse, so I was pretty certain that he would be able to learn to do things and I agreed, not knowing exactly what would be expected of him.  He was happy to do whatever we asked of him and he enjoyed the lights, cameras, and the attention.”
