Three Grade 1 stakes winners highlighted Monday’s opening session of Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale, led by the $1.4 million paid by Teruya Yoshida’s Shadai Farm for Flower Bowl Invitational (G1) winner Ave (GB).
Wickedly Perfect and Negligee, both winners of Keeneland’s Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes, commanded $800,000 and $625,000, respectively.
Consigned by Three Chimneys Sales, agent, the 5-year-old Ave is by leading European sire Danehill Dancer out of the winning In the Wings mare Anna Amalia. She recorded five wins in 15 career starts while racing in England, Ireland, Canada, Japan and the United States, including a victory in the Group 3 Denny Cordell Lavarack & Lanwades Stud Fillies’ Stakes. In addition to her win in last year’s Flower Bowl, she finished second by a nose in the Dance Smartly Stakes (G2), and third in the New York Stakes (G2) and Gallorette Handicap (G3).
